The third training initiated within the project The Photographic Image Between Past and Future started with an online presentation delivered by Marthe Tolnes Fjellestad, a curator at Perspektiv Museum in Tromsø who is also collaborating with the University of Bergen Library – The Photographic Collection. Tolnes Fjellestad spoke about her expertise in the history of photography and archiving methods. In her presentation she touched upon various aspects related to the physical organization of the collection housed by the University of Bergen, the optimal conditions ensured for its preservation, as well as the continuous improvement of the digitization system and of the online catalogue. Acquiring this type of knowledge is essential for a project such as ours, which aims to professionalize all the levels of our complex involvement with an enormously important image collection. If the COVID-19 related situation will allow for it, Marthe Tolnes Fjellestad has scheduled a trip to Bucharest this winter, in order to familiarize herself with the content of the Mihai Oroveanu Image Collection and to offer concrete advice and solutions for our working process.
The training sessions were attended by the project team comprised of Alexandra Croitoru, Magda Radu, Ștefan Sava, Adriana Dumitran, Calina Bârzu, and students from the Faculty of Art History and Theory (Oana Micu) and the Photo-Video Department from the National University of Arts in Bucharest (Monica Georgescu, Crăița Niga), as well as the Centre of Excellence in the Study of the Image from the University of Bucharest (Rareș Toma).
