The second part of the training session conducted by Antonio Cataldo, artistic director of Fotogalleriet Oslo, the partner institution in the Photographic Image between Past and Future project, focused on the challenges facing cultural institutions during the pandemic. Cataldo presented a series of events conceived by Fotogalleriet as part of a programme that extended over two months, titled Let’s Talk about Images 2.1.0. Together with his dynamic team, Cataldo was able to develop within an extremely short space of time discursive and artistic formats whereby to foster interest on the part of the local and international community in a series of current topics relevant to the contemporary world. Cataldo discussed the way in which curatorial thinking can be adapted to digital platforms not necessarily designed to accommodate the specific ways in which the system of contemporary art manifests itself. By pushing against these limits, new means of artistic expression are being formulated and the institutions’ potential to act critically within society is renewed. The final stage of the training session has been rescheduled for 2021, in the hope that the COVID-19 situation will allow a face-to-face meeting in Bucharest.
The training sessions were attended by the project team comprised of Alexandra Croitoru, Magda Radu, Ștefan Sava, Adriana Dumitran, Calina Bârzu, and students from the Faculty of Art History and Theory (Luisa Huluba, Ana-Maria Ștefan) and the Photo-Video Department from the National University of Arts in Bucharest (Anastasia Lungu, Liviu Ralea, Ștefan Simion).
