The building was built in the first decades of the 19th century near the Cișmigiu Park in the northern area of the current Valter Mărăcineanu Square. From 1862 it became state property and will house the Ministry of Cults and Public Instruction and the Tribunal. At the beginning of the 20th century Leon M. Popescu will set up the Lyric Theater here.
