In the period August-September 2024 the research process in the Mihai Oroveanu Image Collection carried on, occasioned by the project “Rural/urban: photography and the contradictions of modernization in Romania”. 500 images were scanned and packaged in professional archival materials, and 300 of these were indexed and uploaded to the collection’s online catalog, expanding the content of existing categories, such as “Bucharest” (a remarkable collection of photos of Obor Square, along with documentation of new housing districts in the 1970s and 1980s), “Socialism” (various facets of urban commerce in Romania), as well as the “Rural” chapter, presenting occupations and crafts in the rural world over several decades of the 20th century or the forced modernization brought about by collectivization in the 1950s.

We thank our collaborators for their important contribution to the further digitization of the Mihai Oroveanu Image Collection: Adriana Dumitran (indexing and research) and Serioja Bocsok (scanning).
